Recently, a hashtag, #DeSci, has appeared repeatedly in crypto Twitter topics.
What is DeSci? Actually, its not a new concept.
DeSci is an abbreviation that stands for Decentralized Science. In specific implementation, it promotes the sharing of knowledge and scientific progress by using cryptocurrencies and smart contracts to fund research, bringing transparency to the publication and peer review of scientific research, and making research results available to the wider public.
Open Scinense NFT was launched last year, and the relevant research team raised scientific research funds by auctioning NFT.
Recently, the key point that revived DeSci was a post by CZ expressing his personal research interests:
Then DeSci and the concept of so-called longevity became a new focus, and a long-dormant narrative seemed to be back in the spotlight.
However, unlike the virtual economic attributes of most Web3 projects, what is behind DeSci is scientific development, such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, environmental science and other traditional fields, which has positive and actual social value.
As a result, the value of related tokens and projects has gradually been discovered, and collectively they have experienced increases of at least 50%.
Narratives in the crypto world change extremely quickly, and each narrative may not leave a long window. In the context of the rekindled DeSci narrative, what other potential projects deserve early attention?
1.Data Lake: Patient medical data donation platform
Market capitalization: 2.6 M (CMC data)
FDV： 51 M
30-day change: +360%
Data Lake creates a global medical data donation system based on blockchain technology to support medical research and artificial intelligence.
Built on Polygo and the token ($LAKE), a system is built to connect patients and researchers who need medical data to support their search for disease cures and new treatments, improving healthcare and patient outcomes.
Data Lake can gain access to medical data from a donor’s healthcare provider, anonymize it, and potentially make it available to researchers, while allowing hospitals and data donors to share in the rewards of the medical data economy.
The staking pool has been opened. Depositing $lake can earn a return of up to 422% APR.
Token empowerment initiatives are beginning to emerge, but the yield is expected to decline as the number of participants increases
2.ResearchHub: Created by the founder of Coinbase, a platform that changes the traditional publishing model of scientific research journals
Market value: 30 M
FDV： 564 M
30-day change: +3660%
ResearchHub is a tool that supports the open publication and discussion of scientific research and aims to break the low incentives of traditional scientific funding and publishing.
The project was founded by Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong and received $5 million in Series A financing on June 15 this year.
ResearchHub creates a Hub that replaces the traditional journal model and allows for streamlined and open publishing of scientific or scholarly content directly within these hubs. This eliminates the gatekeeping process of traditional publishing and allows for accelerated dissemination of information, followed by peer review upon publication.
In conjunction with the above products, ResearchHub users can receive ResearchCoin (RSC) rewards. Specific methods include:
Share research paper PDF (as long as it does not infringe any copyrights)
Comment and discuss scientific research
Peer-reviewed scientific papers
Receive RSC alerts from other users
Develop open source features
On December 17, the project will hold an event (Private Event) with sora ventures during Taipei Blockchain Week, or more information will be released
3.GenomesDAO: A secure vault for personal genetic data sequences
Market value: 3.7 M
FDV： 30.3 M
30-day change: +227%
GenomesDAO is a biotech DAO focused on secure, private and auditable monetization of genomic data using DeFi
For individuals, provide clinical-grade whole-genome sequencing, personalized genomic reports based on this data, and secure data storage in a personal DNA vault
For organizations, they offer DNA Vault technology to create secure, participant-owned genomic databases.
For researchers, they provide the ability to easily query relevant high-quality genomic datasets to understand the causes of disease and develop new drugs
GENE tokens are used for payment for whole genome sequencing and as an incentive for queries using their encrypted DNA data vault
According to the DAOs vote, the project agreed to use 25 million GENE to provide liquidity for Uni V3 on the ETH mainnet.
This move may allow GENE, which currently has a smaller market capitalization, to have better liquidity.
4.VitaDao: Raise community funds to fund longevity research
Market cap: 34M
FDV： 250 M
30-day change: +88%
VitaDAO is a community governed by $VITA holders focused on funding early-stage longevity research.
More than 20 research projects totaling more than $6 million have been funded.
Includes research into age-related diseases and the search for possible new treatments. Project content covers a variety of research types from basic research to preclinical stages.
$VITA token holders can vote on research project funding and overall direction of VitaDAO. This includes which projects are funded, how they are funded, financial management decisions, and other governance activities that help improve the DAO process.
5.HairDAO: Focus on hair loss research, more meme-like
Market capitalization and FDV: lack of unified calculation caliber
30-day change: +92.6%
HairDAO is an open source investment and operation organization focused on treating hair loss, aiming to advance the research and development of hair loss treatments in a democratized manner.
They fund early-stage research and companies focused on understanding and treating hair loss.
HairDAO encourages people with a variety of skills to join its workgroup, whether technical or with expertise in a specific area.
Its token $HAIR rewards those who help solve the problem of hair loss. Users can earn $HAIR as rewards by uploading their anonymized, encrypted genomic data.
Although it focuses on scientific research, from the official website to Twitter, the content expression and design style of HairDAO are not serious. Even the official website looks a bit humorous like a pantomime old movie.
Among the serious and solid scientific research projects on the DeSci track, the topic of hair loss is more like a meme, and its Twitter name is even marked with the emoji symbol of a hair salon 💈
Considering its unknown market value and the current popularity of DeSci, it is more recommended to treat it as a meme coin.
