Trump repeatedly calls for rates to be cut to 1%, while Fed officials emphasize inflation risks and support a rate hike
Odaily reports: U.S. President Trump recently once again advocated cutting U.S. interest rates to 1% or even lower, arguing that lower financing costs can boost corporate investment, reduce government debt costs, and enhance U.S. economic competitiveness. Meanwhile, on September 16, the Federal Reserve raised the target range for the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00%, the first rate hike since July 2023. Boston Fed President Collins subsequently expressed support for the hike, saying that inflation risks remain above the Fed's 2% target and that monetary policy needs to remain somewhat restrictive to bring inflation down sustainably.
