Odaily News: U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal has sent a letter to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, raising questions about the brief tenure and reasons for the departure of former enforcement chief Margaret Ryan. He also expressed concern over the SEC's decision to drop charges against Tron founder Justin Sun.
Ryan assumed her position in September 2025 and left in March of this year. In his letter, Blumenthal stated that her sudden departure raises questions, especially amid reports that senior SEC officials had interfered with the enforcement division, limiting the progress of cases against certain crypto companies.
According to media reports, Ryan had attempted to strengthen investigations into cases involving fraud, including those related to individuals connected to former President Trump, but faced opposition from some Republican senior officials on the commission.
The disagreement was particularly evident in the Justin Sun case. Previously, during the Biden administration, the SEC had charged Sun and his affiliated companies with conducting unregistered securities offerings through TRX and BTT tokens, allegedly manipulating the market through wash trading, and paying celebrities for undisclosed promotions.
Under the current administration, the SEC has dropped multiple enforcement cases against crypto companies, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance, drawing market attention to potential shifts in regulatory direction.
