Bitcoin Pioneer Adam Back's Multiple Ventures Hit Setbacks: BSTR Ordered to Pay $15 Million Breakup Fee

Odaily News — Multiple Bitcoin ventures associated with Bitcoin pioneer and Blockstream co-founder Adam Back have recently suffered a series of setbacks: the merger between BSTR Holdings, the Bitcoin treasury project he championed, and a SPAC under Cantor Fitzgerald has been terminated, with BSTR ordered to pay a $15 million breakup fee; Blockstream Mining, the Bitcoin mining operation he co-founded and in which he holds a minority stake, along with its partner Exacore, has faced multiple lawsuits following its spin-off from Blockstream, accused of owing equipment payments, electricity bills, and customer deposits, with related financing totaling approximately $2 billion; meanwhile, Liquid Network, the Bitcoin sidechain initiated by Blockstream, suffered a hack in which approximately 4,000 BTC were stolen, of which 3,400 have been returned, with the hacker still retaining approximately $47 million worth of Bitcoin. a16z crypto: Blockchain Is Letting Market Supply Catch Up with Global Potential Demand
Odaily reports: a16z crypto has published a post stating that one of the core values of blockchain is "creating entirely new markets." Through permissionless issuance and global distribution, it breaks through the long-standing constraints of traditional financial markets—such as listing committees, legal frameworks, and geographic fragmentation—enabling market supply to better match global potential demand.According to a16z crypto, from perpetual contracts, spot DEXs, and prediction markets to lending, meme coins, NFTs, and real-world asset tokenization, nearly all representative markets in the crypto industry have benefited from this mechanism. Among them, perpetual contracts are the most direct embodiment of this trend. In July of this year, onchain RWA perpetual contract trading volume reached an annualized scale of $1.4 trillion, accounting for approximately half of Hyperliquid's trading volume. As mechanisms such as HIP-3 and HIP-4 lower the barriers to market issuance, a16z crypto expects that onchain markets will continue to expand into commodities, foreign exchange, indices, 24/7 equity exposure, as well as previously underserved risk assets such as CPI, computing power, music, social trends, and sports.
