Pause Timeline Delayed to Q2 2027, Balancer Proposes Fork to Restart Protocol
Odaily Report: The Balancer community has proposed a "Fork and Reincarnate" proposal, aiming to continue its technology and ecosystem through an official fork in the event that the protocol may be shut down, and to position the new protocol as a tokenized stock trading platform. The proposal suggests that MAXYZ lead the establishment of a new official fork entity, migrating part of the liquidity, team members, partners, users, and intellectual property, while delaying the pause timeline for existing pools and the Vault to Q2 2027.Regarding funding, the proposal plans to use approximately 6 million uncirculated BAL remaining from Balancer as seed funding for the new project, worth about $690,000 at current prices; if the new protocol conducts a token issuance or other liquidity exit event in the future, the Balancer treasury will receive 10% of the new protocol token's fully diluted valuation in advance. The proposal also plans to grant the new fork a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive license to Balancer-related intellectual property.
Balancer Co-Founder Proposes Phasing Out the Protocol, Says v3 Revenue Growth Fell Short of Expectations
Odaily Report: Balancer Labs co-founder Marcus Hardt posted on X that he has proposed a governance proposal to gradually shut down Balancer. Balancer had previously completed a restructuring, including halting token emissions, transferring all protocol fees to the DAO, cutting the operational budget by one-third, and reducing the team from approximately 25 people to 12.5 full-time equivalents.Marcus stated that the restructuring was completed on the cost side as planned, but revenue performance fell short of expectations. Currently, most of Balancer's protocol revenue still comes from v2, and v3 revenue has not grown enough to replace v2. Previous security incidents have also continued to affect partners' willingness to adopt v3. Marcus said he can no longer see a funded path that could change the situation, and continuing to burn through treasury funds is not reasonable. Therefore, he has proposed gradually shutting down Balancer and will not lead efforts to develop a plan for continued operations. The Balancer code will remain open source, and other teams can fork it and continue development. The relevant proposal has been submitted to the governance forum, and the final decision still rests with token holders.
灰度研究主管:以太坊像一个“小国家”,ETH发行决定网络安全与货币权衡
Odaily Planet Daily News Grayscale Research Director Zach Pandl posted on X platform, comparing Ethereum to a "small country" and discussing the ETH issuance mechanism. He believes Ethereum has only one core "government function": protecting property rights and value exchange within the system. Unlike traditional countries that fund public services through taxation, Ethereum primarily relies on "seigniorage"—issuing new ETH to fund network security.Within this framework, the stakers responsible for maintaining network security act as a group providing public services, rewarded through newly issued ETH. Therefore, Ethereum's staking mechanism and ETH issuance policy essentially constitute both the network's fiscal policy and monetary policy simultaneously.Zach Pandl pointed out that the Ethereum community needs to decide how much "new money creation" should be used to cover network security costs. Greater security assurance typically means stronger property rights protection, but the trade-off is higher ETH issuance and potentially other risks. For example, if network security becomes increasingly dependent on a few large staking service providers, whether these providers can maintain all users' asset rights in a fully neutral manner remains open to discussion.Pandl believes that in traditional economies, no one knows the "optimal level" of government spending and money issuance—and the same applies to Ethereum. However, Ethereum has several critical security thresholds, including: 1/3: if attackers reach this proportion, they could impact finality; 1/2: influence over blockchain fork choice; 2/3: control over the finality process. Some community members argue that Ethereum's monetary and fiscal policy design should account for the security trade-offs posed by these critical ratios, and the current mechanism has not fully incorporated these factors. That said, the analogy is not entirely accurate, as it does not yet cover other important elements such as ETH burning mechanisms, MEV, and governance.

SlowMist Yu Xian: Do Not Trust the Stability or Resilience of OpenClaw; Certain Forks or Reference Versions Show Poor Security Proactiveness
Odaily News SlowMist founder Yu Xian posted on platform X, stating: "I don't trust the stability or resilience of OpenClaw, but I feel quite reassured about Claude Code, as it is one of the core goals of software engineering. Regarding security emphasis, both companies place a high priority on security, and submitted vulnerabilities receive very timely feedback. Certain OpenClaw forks or reference versions show much less proactiveness towards security. In terms of security scenarios, although OpenClaw also has a Sandbox mechanism and attempts to design more granular tool permissions, as its name 'OpenClaw' suggests, 'Open' is its greatest charm. An OpenClaw that is overly restricted is not OpenClaw anymore. The dilemma is desiring both its freedom and its controllability. However, in real production environments, an excessively free OpenClaw can easily become uncontrollable."
Data: Balancer V2/V3's fork protocol TVL has fallen by over 30% in the past 24 hours.
According to DeFiLlama data, there are currently 29 forked protocols for Balancer V2/Balancer V3 across the network, with a total value (TVL) still exceeding $60 million. However, due to the Balancer attack, funds are fleeing the network rapidly, and the TVL of Balancer V2/Balancer V3 forked protocols has fallen by more than 30% in the past 24 hours.
Gate Alpha will launch the 12th round of points airdrops. Holders of 138 points can be the first to receive 1750 ANI

Users holding 138 or more Gate Alpha points will receive 1,750 ANI tokens. Quantities are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. This event will consume 15 Gate Alpha points. According to official news, the top 4 currencies with the highest increase in Gate Alpha today are: FORK (1446.73%), AIN (665.02%), Broligarch (412.01%) and Waluigi (322.77%). Gate Alpha now supports popular public chains such as SOL, ETH, BNB Chain, Base and World Chain, and can realize seamless transactions of all-chain tokens through the contract address search function, open up cross-chain transaction links, and realize one-click access to all on-chain tokens.
SlowMist Cosine: GMX-related fork projects need to avoid similar security risks as GMX v1
Odaily News Yu Xian, the founder of SlowMist, posted on the X platform that GMX-related fork projects need to pay attention to similar security risks. He said that the fundamental reason why GMX was stolen for $42 million last night was that GMX v1 would immediately update the global short average price (globalShortAveragePrices) when processing short positions, and this global average price would directly affect the calculation of the total asset size (AUM), which would lead to the manipulation of the GLP token price. The attacker took advantage of this design flaw and enabled the timelock.enableLeverage feature (a necessary condition for creating large short orders) when executing orders through Keeper. By re-entering, he successfully created a large short position to manipulate the global average price, so as to artificially raise the GLP price in a single transaction and profit through redemption operations.
Backpack: Users who made profits when their positions were previously disrupted can dispose of their assets on their own, and users who suffered losses will be fully compensated
Odaily News According to official news, Backpack issued an announcement regarding the recharge jam and contract position confusion on July 3, saying: "A total of 5,000 users traded on that day. When the positions were confused, about 500 users made profits, and 500 users suffered losses due to this incident. After rolling back the code, we decided that users who made profits can dispose of their assets on their own, and users who lost money will be compensated in full. As of the time of posting, we have received a total of 410 compensation requests, 242 requests have been processed, and a total of US$70,000 in compensation has been issued. We expect the total compensation amount to be around US$200,000. We will compensate all users who participated in transactions on that day with double points." In addition, Backpack CEO Armani wrote: “Our exchange architecture is essentially a private, permissioned blockchain—designed from scratch for performance, verifiability, transparency, and efficiency. We did not fork any existing technology, but developed it from scratch.”
