WeChat to Continue Cracking Down on Accounts Using Blockchain Virtual Currency and Stablecoin Names to Commit Fraud
Odaily News: WeChat will continue to crack down on illegal and criminal activities such as pyramid schemes and fraud organized by certain accounts. Such activities typically use the pretext of national asset unfreezing, national policies, national projects, blockchain virtual currencies, or stablecoins, luring users with high returns to join group chats and recruit others, then stealing WeChat account passwords through suspicious links, inducing downloads of fraudulent apps, or requiring participation in check-ins, meetings, courses, and other activities to carry out scams.WeChat will take tiered measures against relevant accounts based on the severity of violations, including banning group functions, restricting certain features, and suspending accounts.
Fairshake Plans to Spend $30 Million Against Sherrod Brown
Odaily reports: The U.S. Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on September 15 with a vote of 49 in favor and 50 against, and with limited remaining legislative sessions before Congress's 2027 term, the bill's chances of passage have diminished.Fairshake, a political action committee backed by Coinbase and Ripple Labs, plans to spend $30 million in the Ohio Senate race to oppose Sherrod Brown. Fairshake spent over $130 million on advertising during the 2024 election cycle and approximately $41 million opposing Brown.Stand With Crypto, an advocacy group launched by Coinbase in 2023, said it will mobilize supporters to participate in the 2026 midterm elections based on lawmakers' voting records on the bill. US Senate does not advance the Clarity Act, stablecoin platform reward policies still led by SEC and CFTC
Odaily reports that the U.S. Senate has not advanced the Clarity Act, and U.S. crypto policy remains primarily led by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). After the bill's advancement stalled, whether stablecoin platforms can offer rewards that may compete with bank deposits still lacks a clear legislative arrangement.Banks have made progress in the dispute over whether stablecoin platform rewards will compete with deposit business. Regulated crypto hubs such as the UAE are using clearer rules to attract businesses, talent, and capital, and may benefit from the U.S. legislative deadlock. (CoinDesk)
Iranian Military: Any US attack will lead to Iranian retaliation
Odaily: On the 20th local time, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters issued a statement saying that intelligence shows the United States, in order to cover up its failures and attempt to extract benefits from this war, after holding a joint meeting in a certain European country, has decided—with the tacit consent of certain Middle Eastern countries—to once again take hostile action against Iran. The statement warned that if the United States makes any mistake against Iran, all of its bases and interest targets in the region will without reservation face sustained, effective, and painful strikes. The statement also said that Iran cautions countries in the region that if they continue to pursue a "two-faced policy" toward Iran and cooperate with the enemy, the countries concerned will be regarded as accomplices; at that point, they will no longer be able to count on the Iranian armed forces to exercise restraint or tolerance. Peter Schiff: SEC Loosening Tokenized Stock Regulation Is Bearish for Bitcoin
Odaily News: Longtime Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff posted that Bitcoin's rise following the U.S. SEC's announcement of an innovation exemption related to tokenized stocks "makes no sense," arguing that the policy is actually bearish for Bitcoin because Bitcoin will need to compete with tokenized securities in the future.Schiff believes that tokenized stocks backed by assets of profitable companies capable of paying dividends also offer the trading convenience of digital assets while carrying corresponding equity rights, and therefore he argues that such assets are superior to Bitcoin as a store of value.
Yu Yuantan: 13 Revisions of User Privacy Policy in 3 Years — Anthropic Hands Global User Data to U.S. Intelligence Agencies
Odaily reports: Yu Yuantan stated that Silicon Valley is engaged in a fierce debate over the pace and safety of AI development. After reviewing the 13 revisions of Anthropic's privacy policy since the first version was released in 2023 and comparing them with the privacy information management system standard ISO/IEC 27701, it was found that Anthropic's user privacy data security risks are increasing. There are three steps by which Anthropic became an "intelligence hub." First, transferring overseas user data to the United States; second, expanding the sources for obtaining user data; third, providing intelligence to U.S. intelligence agencies in exchange for benefits. CoinShares: Hawkish Fed and CLARITY Setback Create Double Pressure, BTC's Year-End Push Toward $80K Hits Resistance
Odaily reports: CoinShares noted in its latest research report that the Fed's hawkish policy shift and the stalling of the CLARITY Act are the two major short-term pressures currently facing the crypto market. According to the report, the Fed believes inflation remains too high, and its latest interest rate projections no longer show any room for rate cuts before 2027, which has provided support for the dollar and short-term U.S. Treasury yields. Combined with the Iran conflict driving up energy prices, the possibility of another rate hike within the year has increased. CoinShares believes that if the inflation outlook does not improve significantly, or if there is no major shift in monetary policy expectations, BTC may struggle to effectively break above $80,000 before the end of the year.On the regulatory front, the main disagreement over the CLARITY Act remains centered on ethics provisions, and a revised version could potentially be reintroduced as early as the beginning of next year. Since Bitcoin's regulatory status is relatively clear, the bill's setback has limited impact on it, while Ethereum and other altcoins face greater regulatory uncertainty.
QCP: Bitcoin Digesting CLARITY Setback and Fed Rate Hike in Succession, ETF Flows Turn to Net Inflows
Odaily reports: QCP Capital stated in a post that Bitcoin faced two major bearish events within 48 hours — a procedural vote setback for the CLARITY Act and a Federal Reserve rate hike — yet the price still showed some resilience, briefly falling to a monthly low of around $75,900 and currently holding near $76,500.QCP noted that spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of $450 million and $296 million on September 15 and 16, respectively, but flipped to net inflows of $159 million on the 17th, with BlackRock's IBIT recording $184 million in net inflows, indicating that capital flows improved after the Fed rate hike.QCP believes the 25 basis point rate hike had been fully priced in by the market, and what is more noteworthy is Fed Chair Warsh's hawkish remarks on inflation and policy restrictiveness. However, U.S. Treasury yields subsequently fell across the board, suggesting the market may interpret the current hike as reducing the need for further rate increases in the future.
Bolivia Pledges to Establish a Virtual Asset Regulatory Framework to Prevent Capital Outflows Through Crypto Markets
Odaily reports: The Bolivian government, in its economic and financial policy memorandum submitted to the IMF, has pledged to establish a virtual asset regulatory and supervisory framework to mitigate the risk of improper capital outflows through crypto asset markets. The memorandum does not set an implementation timeline, designate a competent authority, or specify whether it will be enacted through legislation, decree, or administrative regulation. This commitment is part of Bolivia's 36-month, 1.369 billion Special Drawing Rights Extended Fund Facility arrangement with the IMF, equivalent to approximately $1.9 billion, which is still pending approval by Bolivia's National Congress and the IMF Executive Board.
