Trump: If Democrats Control Congress, May Use Presidential Veto Power to Counter
Odaily reports: On November 3 local time, voting in the U.S. midterm elections continued. U.S. President Trump said that day that if Democrats make gains in this election and win control of Congress, he may force Democrats to reach a bipartisan agreement with him by exercising presidential veto power. Trump said in an interview that day: "Historically, you only need to exercise veto power for several consecutive months, and then they will come to you and say, 'We must reach an agreement.'"
Trump also said that if Democrats try to use Congress to limit his power, he may further expand the scope of his use of executive power. The relevant remarks indicate that if Democrats win majority seats in both the Senate and House of Representatives in this midterm election, political confrontation between the White House and Congress may intensify. In addition, Trump said that over the past few weeks he has done his best to campaign for Republican candidates across the country. He believes that his campaign activities helped Republicans reverse what had previously appeared to be a possible Democratic "blue wave" and made the election competition more intense. (CCTV News)
