Microsoft Rejects Hundreds-of-Billions Expansion Deal with UK AI Unicorn Nscale
Odaily Report: Nscale, the UK's highest-valued AI startup, has failed to reach a potential new deal worth hundreds of billions of dollars with Microsoft, casting new doubt on its plan to achieve a $35 billion IPO target.
According to three people familiar with the matter, Microsoft declined to more than double the scale of an existing data center computing power leasing contract, with the relevant facilities located in Texas, USA. This means Nscale must find new customers for the data center or potentially lose billions of dollars in future revenue. Currently, discontent over the construction of AI data centers across the United States has become one of the reasons voters rejected incumbent Republican candidates in Tuesday's midterm elections. In some states, including Texas, incoming Democratic governors are calling for an immediate moratorium on data center development projects. (Financial Times)
