Odaily News According to a recent report from blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs, hackers stole more than twice as much cryptocurrency (measured in the dollar value of the currency) in the first half of 2024 as in the first half of 2023. The data shows that as of June 24 this year, the total amount of cryptocurrency theft reached $1.38 billion, compared with $657 million stolen in the same period of 2023. The five largest hacking incidents so far this year accounted for 70% of the total amount stolen. Notable incidents include the theft of more than 4,500 bitcoins, worth more than $300 million, from the Japanese exchange DMM Bitcoin in May, possibly due to stolen private keys or address poisoning.
