The U.S. CFTC Plans to Increase "Commitments of Traders" Report Frequency to Twice Weekly
Odaily reports: The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is working to increase the release frequency of the closely watched Commitments of Traders (COT) report to twice a week by the end of this year.
The report is currently published every Friday, detailing buying and selling activity in commodity markets and distinguishing between hedge funds and other asset management institutions and commercial trading participants. Producers rely on this report to help inform hedging decisions, while speculative traders use the data to observe changes in market positioning and whether related bets have become overly concentrated. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said last week at an agricultural commodity futures conference in Kansas that the plan to increase the report's release frequency stems from demand from the agricultural community.
