Mainstream market Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) recently posted record volumes for its Bitcoin (BTC) trading product.

According to information provided to Cointelegraph by CME representatives, on May 14 CME generated 10,792 bitcoin futures open interest, totaling 53,960 bitcoins, an all-time record for the product.

CME Bitcoin Options Have Performed Well Since Launch

In December 2017, CME launched its bitcoin futures trading product, largely opening the door for mainstream bitcoin players. CME launched another of its cryptocurrency trading products in 2020 — Bitcoin options.

Since the launch of Bitcoin options, CME has traded about 5,000 such contracts, including CME representatives, with a total transaction volume of about 25,000 BTC.
